Gibson has been known to tinker with the venerable Les Paul over the years, and the Les Paul HP was one of the more … well, interesting efforts. Based on a Les Paul Standard with a killer flamed maple top, with Burstbucker pickups and extensive tonal options via four push-pull pots, the guitar is very versatile tonally. The guitar has a slim taper neck profile, fast access neck heel and a compound radius fretboard. There are many additional tonal options available via dip switches in the internal cavitiy. Then things got a little weird … on the original, no pickup surrounds, chrome knobs, a zero-fret nut and the dreaded automatic G-Force tuners … a very odd take on a great guitar.
Thankfully, the original owner had the sense to ditch most of these oddities, installing a Dan Erlewine bone nut, regular knobs and pickup rings, and installing vintage style Kluson tuners instead of the G-Force ones. In short … this is now a super nice playing great looking Les Paul Standard. All original parts included, along with the heavy duty stainless aluminum road case, but minus the G-Force tuners, which are somewhere in a landfill, where most people think they belong.
