And now for something completely different. The arrival of a brand new electric model from Collings is always a special day around here, and the new Ladybird is a unique and welcome addition. Super fun and expressive to play, and it sounds great, of course. Love the poplar laminate body with single f-hole, tortoise binding and hand poured pickguard. This one is in antiqued black, which sets off the binding and pickguard beautifully.
Collings sez: “The fully-hollow Ladybird® occupies its own unique corner in the Collings electric lineup. Loose and buoyant, it possesses a vintage character reminiscent of 1960’s single-cut guitars, while a 24 1/8″ scale length – the shortest in our electric lineup – adds to the instrument’s uniquely expressive feel. Custom-voiced Righteous Sound Bishop pickups were created specifically for this model. In capable hands, these pickups can move the Ladybird® from a whisper to a howl, all while retaining the note clarity for which Collings is known. Each Ladybird® comes strung with a set of D’Addario flat wound .011s, adding a subtly muted warmth typically found on our archtops. Available in either Satin Teal or Antiqued Jet Black, each finish is complemented by leopard tortoise binding and matching tortoise inlays set directly into the pickups. A rosewood bridge, trapeze tailpiece, and Davies Radio knobs round out the retro-forward aesthetic. The Ladybird® is a bold take on vintage tone and timeless style. It captures the unmistakable vibe of a fully-hollow electric with the precision and finesse that only Collings craftsmanship can deliver.”
