I loved it when Collings introduced the WL-14 Waterloo mahogany guitar, and now here is the WL-14 Scissortail in maple.
Drawing its name from the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher — a bird species common to the Central Texas Hill Country — the WL-14 Scissortail is a special edition WL-14 that pays homage to the “Oriole” guitars produced by Kalamazoo between 1940 and 1942. Built with maple back and sides and vintage-inspired X-bracing, the Scissortail brings excellent projection and focus to the flagship WL-14 series while retaining its woody, characteristic tone. A natural finish coupled with distinctive tortoise-style binding sets this instrument apart from other WL-14 models, along with an original Scissortail decal applied to the headstock in true-to-era fashion.
Waterloos are made at the Collings facility in Austin, TX — “Waterloo” was the name of the village which eventually grew into Austin. With warranty and hardshell case.
