Here is a left-handed Waterloo by Collings WL-14, X-braced, sunburst, with the optional smaller neck carve — which is still a beefy neck. Collings quality with minimalist aesthetics, harkening back to vintage tone of the original Kalamazoo guitars. The WL-14 is the flagship model of the Waterloo guitar line and the inspiration that started it all. Keeping true to the 14-fret 00 design and style of the era, the WL-14 is available in “ladder” bracing (L) as well as “X” bracing (X). The ladder bracing option provides woody and open tone, with midrange honk that’s perfect for fingerstyle blues. The “X” braced version retains tighter focus and balance across the tonal range. This guitar is in the sunburst finish with a tiger-striped pickguard, and is X-braced with an adjustable trussrod. The neck is a vintage inspired large carve with what Collings is calling a “strong V” — I built this one with the optional smaller carve, which is still a large neck. Solid spruce tops, solid mahogany bodies, rosewood fretboards, 1.75 ebony nut, bone saddles, Golden Age Restoration tuners and a semi-gloss nitro finish. Waterloos are made at the Collings facility in Austin, TX — “Waterloo” was the name of the village which eventually grew into Austin. With warranty and hardshell case.
