Here’s a one off Fender Custom Shop MasterBuilt Tele, built in 2021 by former head of the Custom Shop Ron Thorn. Ron chose a flamed maple neck and paired it with a very lightweight ash body (the guitar weighs 6 3/4 pounds), then did a terrific job applying fine cross-grain checking to the body. The guitar features handwound Custom Shop 63 Tele pickups by both the renowned Abigail Ybarra who started winding pickups in 1957 (bridge pickup) and her designated successor, Master Pickup Winder Josefina Campos (who did the neck).
The guitar has a comfortable 53 neck carve, 9.5 radius, 6105 frets, a raw aluminum pickguard (a black pickguard is also included), modern Tele wiring and a 5/4 quartersawn neck. With hardshell case and a Custom Shop MasterBuilt certificate signed by Ron Thorn. He also signed the included shop floor traveler. One of a kind guitar.
