Here’s an extremely rare original lefthanded Gibson SG Special, dates to late 1969 or more likely early 1970 based on the pot dates. Has the large “batwing” pickguard, P90s, original and correct Maestro tailpiece, period correct case which shows its age but is intact, appears to have had no modifications from stock, a true lefty survivor in nice condition given it’s more than 50 years old. You will find typical finish crazing, nicks and general wear, but no structural damage. Most noticeably there is a pretty good ding midway up the back of the neck but it is not something you feel playing as it’s on the bass side. Plays very well, all the electronics are good and quiet, and the P90s sound terrific. Has the narrower nut (1 9/16). The SG Special was Pete Townshend’s guitar of choice during the early years of the Who, although he later removed the Maestro from his guitars. A rare opportunity to own a piece of Gibson history. I have seen just one other lefty SG Special from this era and it was not all original (interestingly, the serial number was one digit away from this one).
Condition: Very good; Body: Mahogany; Color: Cherry; Pickups: P90; Scale: 24.75
