Some guitars are more difficult to obtain lefthanded than others. This one, friends, was almost impossible. It took almost four years after ordering for this guitar to finally arrive, a one-off lefty Gibson Les Paul Axcess Custom, in black, of course, with the tuxedo appointments, triple binding and pearl inlays. This was ordered with nickel hardware instead of the standard gold. Maybe that’s why it took so long? Anyway, if you’ve always wanted a Floyd on a Les Paul, this is your guitar.
(Do not confuse this with older Axcess models, which lacked the Floyd Rose system.)
The guitar is in excellent condition, low action, comfort carve on the body, smooth heel and strengthened headstock. However, for some reason Gibson did not carve the channel for the Floyd deeply enough, so the Floyd fine tuners have a tendency to dent the finish when you use it, which has occurred here. The guitar is too glossy to get a good photo but it’s not very noticeable unless you are looking under the tuners. Other than that, lightly played and about as rare as they come for a modern lefty.
Gibson sez: “The modern player’s choice! The iconic Les Paul Custom is re-imagined in this Axcess version, featuring the new Apex headstock for added strength, redesigned contours for added comfort and fingerboard access, and powerful coil-tapped humbuckers for sonic versatility and strength. The Floyd Rose Tremolo and locking nut provide tuning stability during the craziest dive-bombs, while the solid Ebony fingerboard retains clarity in every fretted note and chord. But with all the added features, the Les Paul Custom Axcess is still a Custom Shop “Black Beauty” at the core, with showstopping looks thanks to its multi-ply binding and pearl appointments.”
