Certain guitars are rock and roll icons, and Carlos Santana’s Paul Reed Smith guitar is certainly one of those. Carlos first began playing a PRS in 1982, and a signature model soon followed. This guitar is based on the second iteration of the Santana model, with a 3-way pickup selector instead of individual pickup toggles, and is known as the Santana 2. This guitar has a flamed maple top, finish in, of course, Santana yellow, with green ripple abalone body purfling and natural curly maple edging. The core is figured African ribbon mahogany, finished in antique natural with a subtle micro burst on the edges. This is a nice light weight guitar, weighing just 7 pounds 1 ounce. The neck is curly maple, also finished antique natural with a subtle burst. The fretboard bird inlays, Santana OM inlay and Private Stock Eagle are done in green ripple abalone with mother of pearl outlines. Pickups are Santana models, with zebra covers, and a coil tap pull on the tone control for some added tonal options. The guitar has Carlos’ preferred 11.5 radius and short 24.5 scale. High gloss nitro finish, lifetime warranty and a Private Stock brown leather case. And, of course, built right where Carlos has his guitars built. An awesome instrument.
