My 1st 12 fret was acquired recently from Vic at LeftyGuitarsOnly, a beautiful Huss and Dalton 00-SP Cocobolo/Engleman.
The wider neck took a little getting used to, and did someone mention overtones? I assumed it was the wood, but the construction theory makes sense. This also took some getting used to. This little gem makes palm muting almost a necessity and when played clean, opens a whole new world where each string can be muted or left to ring – with great effect.
Simply a killer size that can be finger or thumb picked (or both simultaneously) anywhere.
To me, the response to pick attack is the real benefit. This smaller guitar just seems to offer much more expression than a dreadnought. This one gives up a little bass and volume to my D-28, but can be well balanced much easier with left hand adjustments.
It took me decades to realize that there’s more out there than a D18/28, which turns out great since it’s like a *really new* experience playing when I pick it up.

Vic, the guitar arrived safe and sound today. I struggled to tune it, as I really just wanted to stare at it. I mean, I had high expectations from the photos, but even my expectations were blown out of the water, aesthetically speaking. As I tuned it up, I would hit a chord or single note. My god, I couldn’t believe the sustain. As I picked through the limited finger picking songs I know, I just couldn’t put her down. To say I’m pleased is an understatement. Vic, I picked up the package last night at FedEx, and let it acclimate overnight. Then, as my wife said, “like a kid on Christmas morning,” I opened her up. WOW! I think you hit it right on. It’s not only gorgeous, but it sounds great! A smaller, more comfortable dreadnaught is a perfect description. Great projection, easy to play and comfortable. I am truly more impressed than I was with Martin, Gibson or Taylor. My hats off to all at H&D. It’s good to know that there are small, hands on builders creating quality instruments in the USA and including us lefties — MM, PA (Huss and Dalton CM Custom cocobolo)
