I haven't had the good fortune to play an 88-year-old D-18 in person, but this new Martin Authentic 1937 VTS aged D-18 is the next best thing, and it is a heck of a dread. Feels old and worn in, sounds amazing. Martin says: "1937 was an excellent year for guitars, with a perfect storm of craftsmanship, innovation, and materials. This Authentic Series replication of a 1937 D-18 stays true to the original with hide glue construction and historically accurate detailing. This guitar features genuine mahogany back and sides and an Adirondack spruce top, and it includes an Authentic circa 1937 bracing pattern. Plus, it adds the Vintage Tone System® (VTS) that ages the wood to replicate the sound of a vintage Martin. Martin's craftspeople can recreate the pleasing visual aesthetics of a vintage guitar and reproduce the particular tones previously reserved for vintage instruments. Now Martin has reintroduced a more accurate body profile based on dreadnought shapes from the early Golden Era of Martin's history. The result is a tactile, visual, and auditory experience that will transport you all the way back to the 1930s. And we know you’re going to like it there." Condition: New (aged); Top: Adirondack spruce; Back and sides: Mahogany; Neck: Mahogany, Authentic 1937; Nut: 1 3/4; Scale: 25.4; Binding: Brown tortoise pattern; Purfling: Multistripe; Rosette: Multistripe; Orientation: Lefthanded (of course)

Collings' OM2H has long been a favorite of mine, and here is the latest iteration, which Collings calls the Traditional. I'm impressed. Takes a great OM and makes it even better and more responsive. I'll let Collings describe it: The Traditional or "T" Series guitars reflect Bill Collings' return to his guitar making roots and offer a new tonal variation on the distinctive Collings sound. Each T Series guitar is built using animal protein glue and a very thin all nitrocellulose lacquer finish, making them exceptionally dynamic and responsive. Bracing and tone woods are adjusted for weight and thickness to create a voicing characterized by warm, rounded highs and a present low midrange, while retaining a quick attack and strong projection. These new Traditional guitars provide old world quality and aesthetic that is unprecedented among instruments available today.

Here is a beautiful new left-handed Martin D-28 Modern Deluxe ... Martin took the Standard D-28 and added, among other things, a VTS top, maple binding, Adirondack spruce forward shifted X bracing, gold hardware, dovetail neck joint and protein glue construction, plus a new neck carve and a stylish abalone Martin logo. Wonderful guitar. Martin sez: "The D-28 Modern Deluxe is a new take on Martin Vintage. This guitar is packed with custom features and modern technology that you have to see, feel, and hear for yourself. The vintage appointments include a spruce VINTAGE TONE SYSTEM® (VTS) top, a dovetail neck joint, and natural protein glue construction that give it the rich, fully aged Martin tone that has inspired generations. The look is unlike anything in our production line to date with European flamed maple binding, stylish gold frets, gold open-gear tuners, and a unique 1930s style script logo inlaid in pearl on the headstock. Some ultra-modern features include Liquidmetal® bridge pins with red dots and a composite carbon fiber bridgeplate that boosts volume. And we’ve included a new neck shape that is slightly asymmetrical for maximum hand comfort up and down the fretboard. This guitar is anything but standard." (An amusing aside: A long (long) time ago, a couple of decades before I opened a guitar store, I played my first Martin D-28 at local store. The old, grizzled store owner, said, "Son, anyone who calls himself a guitar player needs to own him a Martin D-28." Then he told me I was a idiot for not learning how to play right handed. So I told him to stuff it and bought mine somewhere else. But I loved my D-28 and would still own it today had I not replaced it with a D-41 Special 17 years ago.) Here's a brand new Collings D2H. Nobody makes a more powerful dread than Collings does. I'll let Collings describe it:
"The square-shouldered 14-fret dreadnought is the most popular steel-string acoustic guitar body shape in the world. While Collings is certainly not the only company to build them, we bring a new tonal clarity to the depth and warmth usually associated with such a large, deep-bodied guitar. Although its bass response makes the dreadnought ideal for vocal accompaniment, Collings versions are also often employed by bluegrass flatpickers who must compete with inherently louder instruments such as banjos and fiddles. The wide range of woods and neck sizes offered allow dreadnought fans to find a Collings model ideally suited to their playing style and tonal preference." -
SaleLightly played and near mint condition. Save some bucks! Collings builds terrific dreads, and their venerable D1 with the Traditional package is no exception. This guitar is customized with a 1.75 nut. Handsome and understated tortoise binding with gold mother of pearl inlays , the Custom Traditional Series pre-war scalloped X-brace (no tongue brace), ultra-thin nitro finish and ebony fretboard and an ebony belly bridge give it Collings’ typical impressive volume and projection, yet allow the guitar to be equally responsive to a light touch. Dread of a lifetime. Hardshell case. Serial # 33811. Collings sez: "Our Traditional Series or "T-Series” guitars represent an exciting vintage-inspired tonal variation on the distinctive Collings sound, designed and crafted to showcase the most desirable characteristics present in coveted pre-war instruments. Bracing and tone woods are adjusted for weight and thickness to create a voicing characterized by warm, rounded highs and a present low midrange, while retaining a quick attack and strong projection." Here's a beautiful Rick Turner Guitars Renaissance RS6 steel string electric acoustic. I ordered this one with a 1 3/4 nut. The guitar has some nicely figured mahogany back and sides, terrific top, mahogany neck and an ipe (Brazilian walnut) fingerboard. The back of the headstock is signed by the legendary Rick Turner himself. If you play acoustic guitar live, you're familiar with the challenges of getting a natural acoustic tone amplified to stage volumes without being plagued by feedback. All the mics, preamps and EQs in the world are rarely up to dealing with a loud monitor pointing at your soundhole. The thinline RS6 is built like an acoustic but has a mahogany center block to resist feedback. A Turner Timberline bridge pickup feeds a full-spectrum signal to an 18-volt D-TAR preamp with graduated volume and tone controls. The preamp runs off two AA batteries, easily accessible via the back panel. I have tested this at loud monitor volumes and it works great straight into the board. Lindsey Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac) loves his Turner guitars and plays a Renaissance live. These guitars also sound great through a conventional guitar amp.
With locking tuners, Access padded case and Timberline electronics. Condition: New; Top: Mahogany; Back and sides: Mahogany; Neck: Mahogany with ipe (brazilian walnut) fingerboard; Nut: 1 3/4; Scale: 25.5; Orientation: Lefthanded (of course)
