  • We just got in this Gibson Banner 1942 Southern Jumbo and I am smitten. Classic big Gibson tone, hand scalloped red spruce bracing, bone saddle, mother of pearl parallelogram inlays, hide glue construction, C profile neck, open back vintage tuners, and a beautiful burst, to boot.   • Here's a beautiful Rick Turner Guitars Renaissance RS6 steel string electric acoustic. I ordered this one with a 1 3/4 nut. The guitar has some nicely figured mahogany back and sides, terrific top, mahogany neck and an ipe (Brazilian walnut) fingerboard. The back of the headstock is signed by the legendary Rick Turner himself. If you play acoustic guitar live, you're familiar with the challenges of getting a natural acoustic tone amplified to stage volumes without being plagued by feedback. All the mics, preamps and EQs in the world are rarely up to dealing with a loud monitor pointing at your soundhole. The thinline RS6 is built like an acoustic but has a mahogany center block to resist feedback. A Turner Timberline bridge pickup feeds a full-spectrum signal to an 18-volt D-TAR preamp with graduated volume and tone controls. The preamp runs off two AA batteries, easily accessible via the back panel. I have tested this at loud monitor volumes and it works great straight into the board. Lindsey Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac) loves his Turner guitars and plays a Renaissance live. These guitars also sound great through a conventional guitar amp. With locking tuners, Access padded case and Timberline electronics.   • I love small bodied acoustics, and this is one of my favorites. This C10 from Collings offers great tone in  a small, comfortable package.  Crisp trebles, substantial lows, and beautifully balanced. A great blues guitar, strumming guitar, and equally responsive to some dynamic finger picking, thanks to its narrow waist and small upper bout for focused response, and pre-war scalloped bracing. This example is customized with a 1 3/4 nut, tigerstripe pickguard and a gorgeous dark sunburst.  Ebony fretboard, pins and bridge, bone nut and saddle. Collings says this is the ideal guitar for players who switch between electrics and acoustics, because the neck carve is the same rounded profile that you’ll find on the venerable Collings 290 electric, and the heel is small and rounded for excellent access to the upper frets.   • Here's a new Huss and Dalton Traditional OM in east Indian rosewood with a thermo-cured (torrified) sitka spruce top, Gotoh 510 tuners and a handsome tweed case. Always one of my favorites OMs, and the build quality is second to none. Everybody knows that like a fine wine, well-kept acoustic guitars get better with age. The passage of decades cures the wood through exposure to light and air. Huss and Dalton now offers sitka spruce that has been “torrified,” or exposed to a careful heating process that achieves the same results that occur naturally over time. The wood appears darker, as vintage guitars do, and it is lighter and stiffer. But how does it sound? Amazing, in a word.   • I was super excited to become a dealer and order these Iris guitars ... hand made in Vermont under the seasoned watch of Adam Buchwald (formerly with Froggy Bottom) and Dale Fairbanks (Fairbanks Guitars), simply yet elegantly appointed with satin finishes, with a nod to vintage depression era flattop tones and at a very reasonable price point.     Here's a brand-new National Resophonic El Trovador, single cone resonator in mahogany. National's build quality is, as always, off the charts and I love these round neck resonators that are equally at home with a slide or a flatpick. I'll let National describe it: "Its Spanish name translates as “The Troubador,” and this wood-body single-cone National has been popular with musicians ever since its debut in 1932. This reissue was designed in collaboration with renowned blues and swing guitarist Mike Dowling. Like the original, our El Trovador features a large, four-inch-deep body constructed of mahogany — a wood famed for its sonic properties. A wooden soundwell houses the resonator, adding to the unique sound projection.
